Frequently Asked Questions

What is your musical experience?

I have been playing music for the last 16 years and have been teaching throughout the last six. Originally I started with the accordion and later switched to guitar, later picking up bass, ukulele, as well as some piano and drum set knowledge. I've played in various different settings over the years such as in my high school's jazz bands/combos/choir, guitar ensemble in college, studio recording sessions, private gigs, in bands with friends and jam sessions of different varieties.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My lessons are always guided by the student's goals and professionally crafted to ensure that the quickest and most efficient path is taken to achieve them. I offer a distillation of my years of experience which if followed will allow the student to progress at a steady and surprising rate. I can impart and illuminate many different aspects of music but most importantly, I can show you how to practice, what to practice and explain it all in a way that uses your favorite music to further elucidate musical concepts. The tools that your favorite artist uses can be at your fingertips too.

How much do you charge for your teaching services?

Please contact me for lesson prices and deals.

Where do you hold your lessons?

I teach out of my home in Downey, California although I can travel to nearby areas in Los Angeles County depending on availability.

How long are lessons? Should I take multiple lessons per week?

I offer 1hr and 1/2hr lessons at the pace of once a week. This is a sufficient pace for improvement although longer lessons and multiple lessons per week can be arranged. More intensive paces should be considered only if the student is fairly advanced and dedicated to improving and/or looking to play in a professional setting.

When are you available to teach?

Monday-Friday from 10:00am-8:00pm.

Can you travel to me?

Although I teach largely out of my home in Downey, I can travel to most surrounding areas for a small travel fee.

What levels can you teach?

All levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced players.

Do you teach kids?

Students of all ages are welcome! For students under 18 I require a parent or guardian to be present for the duration of the lesson. For the sake of everyone's time and investment, please read my practice expectations in the policy section.
